2017 FRCS Crew Position – NOW HIRING

The FRCS is looking to hire an additional crew member immediately.  If you are interested in working on regional climbing areas and being a part of making our beloved resources more sustainable contact us.  We are looking for individuals with a strong work ethic, have a desire to learn and who are quick on their feet.  Our projects generally involve stone work on difficult terrain.  This entails serious physical challenges that require the crew to work as a team.  Rock quarrying, transportation, rigging, trail design and stone building are skills that you will hone or acquire in this position.  All levels of experience will be considered and we can provide a flexible schedule for the right candidate.  Projects are located in Clear Creek Canyon, The Flatirons and Indian Creek for the remainder of FRCS’s season.  Please see the job description for further details and how to apply.

Position Responsibilities

  • Work alongside land management staff, fellow FRCS crewmembers and volunteers to create sustainable climbing related structures.
  • Lift, transport, position materials into stable structures following specifications established by the land manager/field manager.
  • Safely & efficiently work with a variety of tools (including; grip hoist (& other rigging equipment), power tools, rock hammers & chisels, rock bars, power drill and feathers & wedges) and maintain equipment conditions.
  • Work closely & follow directions from fellow FRCS team members.
  • Perform heavy lifting and continual physical exertion in rugged terrain and at times, adverse weather conditions.
  • Be available to work on a regular schedule.
  • Assess, understand and address safety concerns to minimize potential injuries and damage to surrounding features.
  • Interact with community members in a polite and professional manner to promote the mission of FRCS, BCC, AF and land managers.
  • Wear appropriate safety equipment when necessary.
  • Show up on time, ready to work both physically and mentally.
  • Create and ensure a collaborative work environment by maintaining consistent communications with all parties involved.
  • Convey necessary scheduling conflicts in a timely manner to FRCS Field Manager and Crew Leader.
  • Assess, train and supervise volunteers on safe and efficient techniques for material gathering, transport and construction into permanent quality structures.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with land managers.
  • Possess knowledge of how climbers use natural terrain as well as familiarity of climbing areas and trails in the Front Range.
  • This position may require travel to adjoining states, cities and counties to work at a variety of sites.
  • Document work outcomes and progress via FRCS’s cloud account and social media.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in trail construction & restoration with an emphasis on intensive projects and stone work.
  • Experience in rope work and anchor building.
  • Keen judgment and experience managing risk.
  • Possesses a very strong work ethic, drive for a quality finished product and strong problem solving skills.
  • An Ability to work in both team & independent settings
  • A high level of fitness: Hiking with weight and on varied terrain, Strong cardiovascular fitness, Ability to lift up to and exceeding 50 lbs on a continual basis.
  • Extreme flexibility, adaptability, creativity and ability to multitask and think quickly on one’s feet.
  • Ability to learn and master new skills on a continual basis.
  • A sense of adventure and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Passion for people, climbing, education, and stewardship coupled with experience working with, supervising and motivating volunteers.
  • Moderate computer literacy: MS Office, Google Calendar & Drive.
  • Ability to participate in social media: Facebook, Instagram, & Eventbrite.
  • An ability to access/contribute to online timesheets and crew documents. (home computer/smart phone with internet access)
  • Must have appropriate personal gear to use on the job. (helmet, harness, suitable shoes/boots and back pack)
  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to commute to a variety of job sites within the Front Range.


  • Hourly Salary dependent on experience.
  • Field Expenses compensated during out of state programs: $12/day food per diem and $100/travel day per diem.
  • Pro deals and gear give-a-ways are a part of being on the FRCS crew.

Start Date/Season/Schedule

  • Position will begin as soon as possible.
  • 30 to 40 hour work weeks, M-Th 7am to 5pm
  • The season is will last through the end of October 2017 and potentially extend till the end of November.
  • Part time and/or blocks of work are negotiable for the right candidate.
